I can't stand it!

I can't stand it when "little red" starts crying for no reason.  It makes me so upset because I don't know what is going on and what she needs. Most of the time she just ends up comfort nursing on her mom. Also my mom might have a plan with "little red" and her future home. We are either going to keep her or we are going to get her surgery when the time comes and then she will go to my mom's friend who really wants a yorkies. But we know what's going to happen is that we will keep her and I hope that's the plan! I will give her the best care possible.

What "Yorkie With A Hernia" looks like!

Hello everyone! This here is "Little Red," she does not have an official name just yet, but I do have some ideas stirring around in my head! She was born on March 21st, 2014 my oldie dachshund Minnie's 13th birthday. I really do think she was meant to be mine. When she was two weeks old she already recognized me. Her eyes were not open yet, but if someone was holding her and I was nearby talking she was start to get super excited! If you have any names ideas leave them down in the comments.

Emotional...

Today little red (still doesn't have a name yet) was barking because she was hungry. After the nursing session I picked her up and her "hernia" was even more obvious. I got so emotional I went into my room and started crying. Why her? Right now I don't think my parents are on the same boat with keeping her. Obviously I really want to and when the time comes I do believe that they will allow me to keep her. I am stable enough to support her needs financially. I am hoping for the best by the time she is able to get her operation to fix the "hernia."

Some of you may be wondering why I use quotation marks around the word hernia. It is because we went to the vet on 4/8/14 for the vet to check it out and the vet did not give us a diagnosis on whether or not she has a hernia. I don't want to be jumping to conclusions. Until we really know that her "hernia" is a hernia I will continue to use the quotation marks.

Our "diagnosis"

Today, we went to our vet appointment to determine whether or not the puppy has a hernia. Well...she is still too young to tell if she has a true hernia. :( However the vet did show me how to check for one and it does appear that there is the slight possibility that it is a hernia. The vet said to push on her stomach and if something pops up it is the hernia. Guess what? He pushed on her stomach and something popped up. My gut feeling is telling me that yes that little bump there is indeed an inguinal hernia. Poor thing. :( He just said to keep an eye on it and he will check again come her 8 week checkup. Good news is that it can be repaired and that it isn't too expensive. It will be around $200-250 for a spay and inguinal hernia repair. Time to start saving up money...

This is the story...

This is the story of a 2.5 week old Yorkie with a hernia. I first noticed it on 4/6/14 when I saw a lump in the groin area. This type of hernia is called an inguinal hernia and is considered genetic. However, I know up to 5 generations from both sides of her family and no one has a hernia! This is a mystery to me. Tomorrow, we will be going to the vets at 6:15pm and we will then see if it is an actual hernia or not. If it is a hernia then we will discuss what to do regarding surgery to fix it. I am hoping for good news tomorrow. If it is a hernia I will be documenting her story on this blog.
